Down at McKale Center on Wednesday night, the Long Beach State 49ers will be matching up with the Arizona Wildcats on the college basketball court.
The Niners enter this game with a 3-4 record overall. Long Beach state has lost four of their last five games against Oregon State, West Virginia, Missouri and Nebraska. In that Huskers game, Long Beach’s Gabe Levin led the team on 22 points and 16 rebounds.
USA TODAY Sports
This year, Levin leads the way for the 49ers on 15.1 PPG and 9.4 RPG. Bryan Alberts is the only other Long Beach State player in double-digits at 12.9 PPG, but Barry Ogalue is close with 9.7 PPG.
Over on the Arizona side, they’re sitting at 3-3 on the year. After opening up the season with three straight wins, the Wildcats have lost their last three versus NC State, SMU and Purdue. In that Boilermakers game, Arizona’s leading scorer was Deandre Ayton, with 22 points and eight boards.
Leading the Wildcats in scoring this year is Allonzo Trier, with 24.5 PPG. Ayton is the only other Arizona player averaging in double-figures (20.3 PPG; 12.0 RPG), but Dusan Ristic is close with 9.8 PPG and 5.8 RPG.
Long Beach State is 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. The 49ers are also 10-25 ATS in their last 35 versus the Pac-12 and 1-5 ATS in their last six Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven non-conference games. Arizona is also 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and the over is 5-1-1 in their last seven home games.
LBSU put up a reasonable effort against Nebraska, but a 49-40 first half doomed them to a five-point loss. The 49ers have played some tough teams lately, and this one’s not going to get a whole lot better. Still, I think Long Beach State can hang around here and eke out a cover.
