The Evansville Purple Aces had begun the 2017-18 campaign with five straight victories before suffering their first loss in a 63-61 defeat at the hands of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs as a 4.5 point underdog. Evansville was the better shooting squad with a 46.2%-37.7% advantage but the Bulldogs managed nine more shots and more free throws to squeeze out the win.

Blake Simmons was the Purple Aces top scoring option with 15 points and six boards on 6-13 rom the floor with three bombs followed by a 12 point effort from Dru Smith on 4-6 from the field. Ryan Taylor added eleven points for Evansville while Dainius Chatkevicius added ten points and hauled in a team high eight rebounds on 5-7.
The New Mexico Lobos are out to halt an early season swoon that has seen the team drop four in a row following an 80-65 defeat versus the Maryland Terrapins as a 12.5 point underdog on Saturday. An 18 point first half hole sealed the fate of New Mexico who didn’t have the horses to overcome such a large deficit. UNM allowed 52.2% shooting but their own 33.3% accuracy and 17 more shot attempts still fell well short.
Chris McNeal was the Lobos top offensive player with 19 points on 6-14 from the field with Anthony Mathis tossing in 12 points on 4-6 from the floor which including a 4-5 mark on three pointers before he fouled out in 17 minutes.
