Over at Maples Pavilion on Wednesday night, the Montana Grizzlies and the Stanford Cardinal will be meeting up in college basketball activity.
Montana enters this game with a 4-2 record overall. The Grizzlies are 2-2 in their last four, falling to Penn State and UC Santa Barbara while beating Oral Roberts and Carroll College Montana. In that Carroll College game, the Grizzlies’ Ahmaad Rorie led the way on 20 points with four rebounds and four assists.
USA TODAY Sports
This year so far, Rorie leads Montana in scoring with 18.8 PPG, 3.7 RPG and 4.3 APG. Also in double-digits for the Grizzlies is Michael Oguine (16.2 PPG; 5.7 RPG; 3.2 APG), while Bobby Moorehead is close with 9.3 PPG and 4.7 RPG.
Over on the Stanford side, they’re currently 3-5 on the season. The Cardinal have lost their last four games versus North Carolina, Florida, Ohio State and Portland State. In that Portland game, Stanford’s top scorer was Reid Travis, with 28 points and 14 boards.
Travis leads the way in scoring for Stanford with 21.4 PPG and 7.3 RPG, and Isaac White is second on 11.1 PPG. Also in double-figures for the Cardinal are Michael Humphrey (10.8 PPG; 8.5 RPG) and Robert Cartwright (10.1 PPG).
The Grizzlies are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a straight-up win and 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. Montana is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five non-conference games.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal are 1-4 ATS in their last five versus Big Sky and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 non-conference games. Stanford is also 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
The CCM game was tougher than it should have been for Montana, who didn’t really pull away until the second half. It’s the latest in a handful of underwhelming performances for the Grizzlies, who should be more talented than this. That said, Stanford is coming off an embarrassing loss and isn’t really scaring anyone right now. I like Montana to hang around here and cover.
