The 4th ranked Villanova Wildcats improved to 6-0 on the season after defeating the Northern Iowa Panthers, 64-50, this past Friday in the Championship Game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. Villanova went into halftime with just a 32-29 lead, however, was outstanding on the defensive end in the 2nd half and pulled away from the Panthers after an 8-0 run gave the Wildcats a 59-45 lead with just 2:03 left in regulation. Villanova held Northern Iowa to just 26.1% (6-23) shooting from beyond the arc and committed only 3 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Mikal Bridges who had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, Villanova is averaging 84.5 ppg on 49.5% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 9.5 three-pointers per game on 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Villanova has been led by Jalen Brunson (18.7 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.2 spg), Mikal Bridges (18.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 2.8 spg), Donte DiVincenzo (11.8 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.3 spg), and Eric Paschall (10.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.7 apg). The Quakers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Wednesday games. The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall however, are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games.
The Pennsylvania Quakers are a young team, however, they have some notable talent in Ryan Betley and AJ Brodeur and have been solid on the offensive end this season as they rank 90th in scoring offense and 90th in three-pointers per game. Villanova is one again one of the best all around teams in College Basketball as the Wildcats rank 46th in scoring offense and T-39th in scoring defense. Villanova will win this game, however, Pennsylvania is a better team than people realize and as I think their offense will have some success, I’m taking the Quakers to cover with this many points.
