The South Florida Bulls will travel to Alumni Gym to take on the Elon Phoenix this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The South Florida Bulls had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 4-3 on the season after being defeated by the Eastern Michigan Eagles, 65-47, this past Sunday. South Florida struggled offensively throughout the game and couldn’t fight back after a 29-6 Eagles run gave Eastern Michigan a 58-43 lead with just 1:57 left in regulation. South Florida shot just 29.2% from the field and 23.5% (4-17) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulls was Payton Banks who had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and a steal. On the season, South Florida is averaging 62.1 ppg on 40.6% shooting from the field. The Bulls are averaging 5.7 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Florida has been led by Payton Banks (12.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.3 apg), Tulio Da Silva (11.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.1 apg), Stephan Jiggetts (10.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.9 apg), and Terrence Samuel (8.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 4.7 apg, 1.4 spg). Defensively, South Florida is holding their opponents to an average of 63.1 ppg on 39.7% shooting from the field. The Bulls have a rebound margin of 1.0 and a turnover margin of -3.1.

The Elon Phoenix improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating the Radford Highlanders, 77-74, on November 22nd. Elon led by a 40-33 margin at halftime and held on late as Radford’s game tying attempt with :02 seconds left was missed. Elon shot 47.5% from the field and 45.5% (15-33) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Dainan Swoope who had 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, Elon is averaging 79.7 ppg on 45.4% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 12.1 three-pointers per game on 38.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Dainan Swoope (17.7 ppg,, 3.7 rpg, 3.4 apg), Brian Dawkins (13.1 ppg, 5.6 rpg), Tyler Seibring (9.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 2.7 apg), and Dmitri Thompson (9.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.1 apg). Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 74.4 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of -1.0.
The Bulls are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games however, are 1-7 in their last 8 games vs. CAA opponents. The Phoenix are 18-37 ATS in their last 55 home game and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games.
South Florida has had trouble finding ways to score the basketball this season as they rank just 340th in scoring offense, 309th in FG%, and 302nd in three-pointers made per game however, have won games with their defense that ranks 43rd in scoring defense. Elon has struggled a bit defensively to open the season, however, the Phoenix are once again one of the better three-point shooting teams in the country as they rank 6th in three-pointers made per game and 69th in 3P-FG%. This will only be Elon’s 2nd home game of the season and as I think they’ll have success from beyond the arc, I’m taking Elon to cover this double-digit spread.
