We have some non-conference action on the hardwood as the Memphis Tigers take on the UAB Blazers in a college basketball matchup on Thursday.
The Memphis Tigers will look to add a solid road win to their current 3 game winning streak following a 76-74 win over Northern Kentucky in their last outing. Jimario Rivers led the team with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a team-high 7 rebounds, while Kyvon Davenport came right behind with 16 points on 7 of 10 shooting with 6 rebounds and Jeremiah Martin added 15 points on 5 of 14 shooting with a team-high 6 assists in the win. Jamal Johnson added 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting with a pair of threes to round out the scoring in double figures for the Tigers in the winning effort, while Kareem Brewton Jr. added a team-high 4 steals and David Nickelberry chipped in 6 points with 3 assists and a pair of blocks. Martin leads the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game while Davenport leads the way on the glass with 6.2 rebounds per game and Brewton Jr. is the team’s top assist man with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Memphis is scoring 69.8 points per game on 43.1% shooting from the field, 26.9% from behind the arc and 65.2% from the foul line this season.

The UAB Blazers will look to stay above .500 and keep their perfect home record in tact after snapping a 3 game losing streak with a 90-53 win over Mississippi College in their last outing. William Lee led the team with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 10 rebounds and 5 blocks for the double-double, while Lewis Sullivan came right behind with 17 points on 5 of 6 shooting with a 7 of 8 mark from the charity stripe in the win. Zack Bryant added 14 points and a team-high 4 assists, while Chris Cokley added 13 points and Nate Darling chipped in 10 to round out the double-digit scoring for the Blazers. Cokley leads the team by averaging a double-double per game with 18.1 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while Nick Norton is the team’s top assist man dishing out 5 assists per game this season. As a team, UAB is scoring 83.1 points per game on 48.4% shooting from the field, 30.9% from behind the arc and 80.6% shooting from the foul line this season.
Memphis is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against C-USA and 17-39 ATS in their last 56 games following a win while the over is 7-1 in their last 8 games overall. UAB is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall ad 1-7 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 home games. Memphis is 20-5-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings against between these two teams.
I’m not ready to say that UAB is back after a win over a subdivision team in their last outing. The Blazers didn’t look great against some average competition, including giving Richmond their only win so far this season. It will be interesting to see how Memphis handles their first true road game of the season, but I think the Tigers come into this one in much better form and getting points with them is a gift I will gladly accept.
