The Wichita State Shockers have joined the AAC but little else has changed as the team looks as strong as ever. Wichita State upped their record to 4-1 in the early going after routing the Savannah State Tigers 112-66. The Shockers raced to a 26 point lead at the half and continued to press the issue until the horn sounded behind a 53.9%-27.5% edge in marksmanship.
Samajae Haynes-Jones paced the Wichita State scoring explosion with 31 points, five yanks and five assists with Darral Willis Jr. adding 14 points and 12 rebounds The Shockers saw Austin Reaves and Rashard Kelly net 12 points apiece with Kelly hauling in another ten rebounds followed by a 1o point efforts Connor Frankamp and Rauno Nurger.
The Baylor Bears kicked off the 2017-18 campaign with five consecutive victories before dropping their first game at the Xavier Musketeers 76-63 as a five point underdog. The Bears were outshot 44.6%-42.9% with Xavier hitting more threes and free throws.
Terry Maston was the Bears top offensive threat with a team high 15 points on 7-9 from the floor with the twosome of Manu Lecomte and Mark Vital adding eleven points apiece with Vital snagging a team high seven rebounds. Baylor received ten points and five assists from King McClure while Nuni Omot and Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. chipped in with eight points each.
