The Youngstown State Penguins will travel to Wintrust Arena to take on the DePaul Blue Demons this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Youngstown State Penguins lost their 4th consecutive game and dropped to 2-6 on the season after being defeated by the Robert Morris Colonials, 81-74, this past Wednesday. Youngstown State played the Colonials tough, however, couldn’t fight after the Colonials hit 7 of 8 FT’s down the stretch after taking a 74-69 lead with 1:23 left in regulation. Youngstown State shot 43.9% from the field and 18.8% (3-16) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Penguins was Devin Haygood who had 15 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in 25 minutes from off the bench. On the season, Youngstown State is averaging 80.6 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Penguins are averaging 6.1 three-pointers per game on 29.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Youngstown State has been led by Cameron Morse (14.5 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.8 spg), Braun Hartfield (14.4 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.9 spg), Tyree Robinson (9.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.1 bpg), and Garrett Covington (8.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.1 spg). Defensively, Youngstown State is allowing their opponents to average 82.1 ppg on 50.3% shooting from the field. The Penguins have a rebound margin of 3.0 and a turnover margin of 4.8.

The DePaul Blue Demons snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 2-4 on the season after defeating the Portland Pilots, 82-69, this past Sunday. DePaul was outstanding on the offensive end in the 1st half and held a double-digit lead for the majority of the 2nd half after taking a 49-33 halftime lead. DePaul shot 45.7% from the field and 48.0% (12-25) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Pilots was Max Strus who had 21 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, DePaul is averaging 70.7 ppg on 38.3% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons are averaging 6.0 three-pointers per game on 30.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, DePaul has been led by Max Strus (14.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Eli Cain (12.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.8 apg), Marin Maric (11.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg), Tre’Darius McCallum (10.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.3 spg). Defensively, DePaul is allowing their opponents to average 73.7 ppg on 43.2% shooting from the field. The Blue Demons have a rebound margin of 0.8 and a turnover margin of 3.3.
The Penguins are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. Big East opponents however, are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Blue Demons are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games vs. Horizon League opponents however, are just 6-20 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games.
Youngstown State has really struggled this season as although it’s not shocking to see the Penguins and their fast-paced offense rank T-317th in scoring defense, it is surprising to see Youngstown State average just 64.5 ppg during their 4-game losing streak. DePaul has had a brutal schedule to start the season with games against Notre Dame, Michigan State, and Oregon, and although their statistics aren’t great, the Blue Demons were competitive against Notre Dame and Oregon. DePaul has struggled on the offensive end as they rank just 333rd in FG%, however, as the Blue Demons have looked good at their new stadium, I think they’ll run away with this one in the 2nd half and cover this large home spread.
