The SEC and the Big East go head-to-head on the hardwood as the Georgia Bulldogs take on the Marquette Golden Eagles in a college basketball matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Georgia Bulldogs will try to stay hot after wins in 5 of their last 6 games, including an 83-81 overtime win over Saint Mary’s in their last outing. Tyree Crump led the team with 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting with a 4 for 7 mark from 3-point range. Yante Maten came 2nd with 16 points along with 7 rebounds, while William Jackson II came right behind with 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes and Juwan Parker follower closely with 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Derek Ogbeide rounded out the scoring in double figures for Georgia with 10 points along with a team-high 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, while Rayshaun Hammonds was held scoreless but dished out a team-high 5 assists. Maten leads the team with an average of 18.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Jackson II is the team’s leading assist man, dishing out 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgia is scoring 72.7 points per game on 44.5% shooting from the field, 31.9% from behind the arc and 70.1% from the foul line this season.

The Marquette Golden Eagles will try to build on their current 3 game winning streak after a 95-69 win over Chicago State in their last outing. Markus Howard led the team with 33 points with an incredible 11 for 15 mark from 3-point range where he did all of his damage. Andrew Rowsey came 2nd with 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting with a far less impressive (sarcasm) 6 for 12 mark from downtown, along with 4 assists. Sacar Anim added 13 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, while Jamal Cain chipped in 10 points to finish the double-digit scoring for the Golden Eagles in the win. Greg Elliott added 7 points along with a team-high 9 assists and 6 rebounds in the winning effort. Rowsey leads Marquette with an average of 23.7 points and 4 assists per game while Sam Hauser is the team’s leading rebounder with 5.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marquette is scoring 83.7 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 38.2% from behind the arc and 78.2% from the foul line this season.
Georgia is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games following a win. Marquette is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a win and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 games against the SEC.
Marquette had an impressive outburst on offense against Chicago State, but the Bulldogs will surely tighten up against that, allowing just 26.7% from behind the arc this season. The Golden Eagles may have the best player on the floor in Rowsey, but the Golden Eagles have yet to cover a spread at home this season. Georgia isn’t much better on the road, but they are coming off of that impressive win against Saint Mary’s and have enough weapons to keep this one close at the very least, so I’ll take Georgia and the points.
