Saturday night college basketball feature the Akron Zips going on the road to oppose the Marshall Thundering Herd.
The Akron Zips have been tabbed for the bottom half of the MAC standing and are out to prove the naysayers wrong. Akron improved to 3-1 after upending the Chattanooga Mocs 75-70 as an 8.5 point favorite on Tuesday. The Zips appeared to be heading for an easy win with an eleven point lead after 20 minutes before the Mocs offense came to life late. Chattanooga held a slight 54.2%-52.8% edge but the Zips mustered a few more looks and baskets.

Daniel Utomi saved Akron as he led all scorers with 24 points and hauled in a game high 13 rebounds on 8-15 from the floor while Malcolm Duvivier and Jimond Ivey netted 15 points apiece with a combined five yanks, five assists and five steals on 12-23 shooting.
The Marshall Thundering Herd have been a bit unpredictable as their 4-3 record says. Marshall saw their shot at a three game winning streak fall by the wayside in a 114-104 loss at the William & Mary Tribe where both teams scored from the opening tip to the final horn. William & Mary held a 60%-52.1% edge in marksmanship where an 18-28 mark on threes was huge.
Jon Elmore was explosive for the Thundering Herd with a game high 32 points with nine rebounds and 12 assists on 9-17 from the floor followed by a 27 point effort from CJ Burks. Marshall received 22 points on 8-11 from CJ Burks while Ajdin Penava tossed in 13 points and posted six boards.
Marshall should win but I don’t like what I’ve seen from this team in the early going…
