The #4 Villanova Wildcats hope to climb the college basketball rankings with a win at the St. Joseph’s Hawks.
The Villanova Wildcats remain unbeaten as expected against a variety of competition although nobody especially difficult. Villanova upped their record to 7-0 with a 90-62 rout of the rival Penn Quakers as a 21 point favorite. The Wildcats took a 20 point lead in to the intermission and were never challenged. Villanova held advantages everywhere but their 56.9%-41.4% shooting edge was the biggest difference.

Jalen Brunson topped the Wildcats scoring spree with a contest high 17 points on 6-7 from the floor with the trio of Phil Booth, Omari Spellman and Mikal Bridges scoring 14 points apiece with Spellman and Bridges combining for 13 rebounds. Donte Cosby-Roundtree chipped in with 12 points as Villanova generally played an eight man rotation.
The St. Joseph’s Hawks are hoping to become a significant force in the Atlantic Ten but that’s a wait and see scenario. St. Joseph’s is gunning for win number three in a row after downing a dangerous Bucknell Bison squad 83-70. The Hawks jumped to a 40-27 lead at the half and traded baskets over the second half. St. Joes sank shots at 41.2% and limited the Bison to 34.2%.
The St. Joseph’s attack revolved around three double digit scorers with James Demery leading the way with a game high 20 points and eight boards on 8-18 from the floor while Shavar Newkirk added 19 points, ten rebounds and five assists. Chris Clover gave the Hawks 17 points and five pulls followed by Taylor Funk and Nick Robinson with nine points each.
