Over at SMU Moody Coliseum on Saturday, we’ve got college basketball action coming up between the USC Trojans and the SMU Mustangs.
USC comes into this game with a 4-1 record overall. After winning their first four games, the Trojans fell to Texas A&M in their last outing. In that one, the Trojans’ top scorer was Chimezie Metu, with 13 points and eight rebounds.
USA TODAY Sports
So far this year, Bennie Boatwright has 16.8 PPG and 7.6 RPG to lead the Trojans in scoring, while Metu is right there with 16.6 PPG and 8.4 RPG. Also in double-figures for USC is Jordan McLaughlin (14.4 PPG; 5.4 RPG), and Elijah Stewart is close with 9.6 PPG to his credit.
As for SMU, they’re sitting at 6-2 on the year. The Mustangs are 2-2 in their last two games, falling to Northern Iowa and Western Kentucky and beating Arizona and UT Rio Grande Valley. In that last game, Shake Milton led the Mustangs on 22 points.
On the season, Milton has 18.3 PPG and 4.5 RPG, while Jarrey Foster is sitting on 14.9 PPG and 5.3 RPG. Also in double-figures for SMU is Ethan Chargois (12.5 PPG 5.1 RPG) and Ben Emelogu is close on 9.9 PPG and 6.3 RPG.
The Trojans are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. USC is also 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games and 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 non-conference games.
Meanwhile, SMU is 20-5-1 ATS in their last 26 Saturday games, and 21-6-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Mustangs are also 20-6 ATS in their last 26 following a straight-up win and 20-7 ATS in their last 27 home games.
USC was pretty flat in that Aggies game, scoring just 31 in the first and 28 in the second for a 16-point loss. There was also a 19-3 run in the second which essentially put the game out of reach. As for SMU, they’ve had two real head-scratching losses this year but for the most part have been staying in games. I like the Mustangs to get it done here and cover.
