The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos won their 4th straight game and improved to 5-2 on the season after defeating the San Francisco Dons, 79-72, this past Tuesday. UC Santa Barbara was down midway through the 2nd half, however, was able to fight back and pull away from the Dons after a 17-3 Gauchos run gave UC Santa Barbara a 72-64 lead with 3:33 left in regulation. UC Santa Barbara was solid on the defensive end as the Gauchos held San Francisco to 35.5% shooting from the field and 18.2% (6-33) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Gauchos was Leland King II who had a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds. On the season, UC Santa Barbara is averaging 76.0 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Gauchos are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 37.5% shooting from beyond the arc. The Toreros are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. Big West opponents and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Gauchos are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games.
San Diego can struggle on the offensive end as the Toreros showed in their recent loss against San Diego State, however, the Toreros have been outstanding on the defensive end this season as they rank 16th in scoring defense and 39th in defensive FG%. UC Santa Barbara picked up a nice win on the road against San Francisco, however, the Gauchos haven’t been overly impressive in any aspect of the game this season and struggled in their two matchups against tougher competition in Pittsburgh and Texas A&M. I’m surprised that UC Santa Barbara is favored in this one and I think San Diego rebounds from their 1st lost of the season and wins this one outright. Take San Diego on the M/L.
