Over at Walter Pyramid on Sunday, we’ve got college basketball action coming between the Stanford Cardinal and the Long Beach State 49ers.
On the season, Stanford comes into this game with a 4-5 record. the Cardinal had a four-game losing streak going before taking out Montana in their last outing. In that one, Stanford’s top scorer was Reid Travis, with 20 points and nine rebounds.
USA TODAY Sports
Travis is the top Stanford scorer this year with 21.2 PPG and 7.4 RPG. Also in double-figures for the Cardinal are Michael Humphrey (10.9 PPG; 8.9 RPG), Isaac White (10.3 PPG) and Robert Cartwright (10.2 PPG).
As for Long Beach, they’re sitting at 3-5 on the season. The 49ers beat Oregon State on November 24 but since have lost to Nebraska and Arizona. In that Arizona game, LBSU’s top scorer was Bryan Alberts, with 12 points.
Tops in scoring for Long Beach State this season is Gabe Levin, with 14.5 PPG and 9.1 RPG, which is also a team-high. The only other 49ers player in double-digits is Alberts, with 12.8 PPG, but Barry Ogalue is close on 9.0 PPG.
The Cardinal are 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the Big West and 9-25-1 ATS in the last 35 road games. Stanford is also 3-12 ATS in their last 15 Sunday games and 2-9-1 ATS in the last 12 games overall.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. Long Beach is also 10-26 ATS in their last 36 versus the Pac-12 and the over is 6-0 in their last six Sunday games.
To Stanford’s credit, they ran into some pretty good teams during that four-game losing streak (two ranked), but did lose by at least eight in each one. As for Long Beach, they were dismantled by Arizona in their last outing, scoring just 24 in the first half. I don’t have a whole lot of faith in the 49ers right now, so I’m going with Stanford to cover here.
