The Mississippi State Bulldogs stayed perfect on the season, improving to 6-0 on the year, after defeating the North Dakota State Bison, 83-59, this past Thursday. Mississippi State led by just a 29-24 margin at halftime, however, was outstanding on the offensive end in the 2nd half and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 53-35 lead with 13:48 left in regulation. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Tyson Carter who had 35 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist. On the season, Mississippi State is averaging 79.0 ppg on 49.7% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 6.2 three-pointers per game on 29.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Mississippi State has been led by Tyson Carter (15.0 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.7 apg), Lamar Peters (12.3 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 4.7 apg, 2.7 spg), Quinndary Weatherspoon (12.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.8 apg), and Nick Weatherspoon (12.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg). Defensively, Mississippi State is holding their opponents to an average of 62.3 ppg on 36.3% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 3.7 and a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Flyers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a straight up loss and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 raod games. The Bulldogs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 Sunday games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games.
Dayton is currently in a rebuilding year, and although they are somewhat competitive, it’s going to be a tough season if the Flyers don’t improve on the offensive end as they rank T-255th in scoring offense, 159th in FG%, and T-230th in 3P-FG%. Mississippi State hasn’t played much in competition so far this season, however, the Bulldogs still have been impressive on both ends of the court as they rank 40th in FG% and 14th in defensive FG%. I’m a bit nervous that the Dayton offensive will be able to put up enough points in this one, however, I do think Mississippi State is a bit overrated and as I think the Flyers defense will give the Bulldogs some trouble, I’m taking Dayton and the points.
