We have an in-state showdown in the Sunshine State as the Florida State Seminoles take on the #6 Florida Gators in a college basketball matchup on Monday night.
The Florida State Seminoles will try to pull off a big time road win to remain unbeaten after improving to 6-0 on the year thanks to a 78-73 win over Rutgers last time out. CJ Walker led the team with 24 points on 6 of 11 shooting with a pair of threes and a 10 for 11 mark from the foul line to go along with 3 assists and 4 steals. Phil Cofer was the only other Seminole to finish in double figures scoring, putting up 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 4 threes, while Ike Obiagu added 5 points, 5 blocks and a team-high 10 rebounds. Terance Mann and Braian Angola each had 4 assists, while Trent Forrest added 3 steals of his own in the win. Mann leads the team in scoring with 15.3 points per game while Angola is FSU’s top assist man, dishing out 4.5 assists per game this season and Mfiondu Kabengele is the team’s leading rebounder with 6 boards per game this season. As a team, Florida State is scoring 88.8 points per game on 51.7% shooting from the field, 35.8% from behind the arc and 62.3% from the foul line this season.

The #6 Florida Gators have had a week to stew on their 1st loss of the season, an 87-84 heartbreaker to Duke in their last outing. Jalen Hudson led the team with 24 points on 10 of 20 shooting with a pair of threes and 10 rebounds with 3 steals for the double-double. KeVaughn Allen came 2nd with 17 points with 3 threes, while Egor Koulechov added 15 points and Chris Chiozza chipped in 13 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists to round out the double-digit scoring for the gators in the loss. Hudson leads the team with an average of 21.7 points per game while Koulechov leads the way on the glass with 7 rebounds per game and Chiozza is Florida’s top assist getter, dishing out 6.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Florida is scoring the most points per game in the country with 99.5 per contest, on 48.8% shooting from the field with the 4th-best 3-point percentage in the country at 46% in addition to a 78.3% mark from the charity stripe this season.
The Seminoles are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against the SEC while the over is 6-1-1 in their last 8 games overall. Florida is 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 non-conference games and just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 against the ACC while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. Florida State is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
The Gators are rightfully getting a lot of attention this season as they have one of the more under-appreciated squads in the country. However, the Gators are still giving up 80 points per game and let’s not forget that the Seminoles are an experienced group that can score and won’t be scared of the bright lights in primetime. This rivalry has been extremely competitive with the last 4 meetings being decided by 5 points or less, and I think we see more of the same on Monday night so I’ll gladly take the points with Florida State here.
