We have some non-conference college basketball action on Tuesday night, as the Evansville Aces take on the Bowling Green Falcons.
The Evansville Aces will try to build some momentum after bouncing back from back-to-back losses with a 98-56 win over subdivision Oakland City last time out. Blake Simmons led the team with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting with a pair of threes, a pair of blocks and a team-high 5 assists. Duane Gibson came 2nd with 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting while Noah Frederking and Marty Hill each chipped in 12 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Aces in the win. Both Frederking and Hill hit 4 triples for their contribution, while Dru Smith added 5 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds. Evan Kuhlman and John Hall added 9 points each with Kuhlman outrebounding Hall 8-7. Ryan Taylor leads the team in scoring with 21 points per game this season, while Dainius Chatkevicius is the team’s top rebounder with 5.2 rebounds per game this season and the aforementioned Smith leads the way in assists with 5.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Evansville is scoring 69.2 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field while also boasting the 3rd-best 3-point percentage in the country, shooting 46.7% from downtown in addition to a 76% mark from the foul line this season.

The Bowling Green Falcons will look for another win to add to their solid 7-2 start to the season following a 92-77 win over Norfolk State in their last outing. Dylan Frye led the Falcons with 28 points on 9 of 13 shooting with 5 threes and 5 rebounds, while Demajeo Wiggins and Matt Fox each added 18 points. Wigging went 8 of 10 from the floor with 7 boards, while Fox went 5 for 7 with 4 triples. Justin Turner hit 4 threes of his own with some free throws to finish with 16 points to round out the scoring in double-digits for the Falcons in the win. Derek Koch added 4 points, 4 assists and a team-high 8 rebounds, while Rodrick Caldwell chipped in 4 points of his own with a team-high 7 assists. Frye leads the team in scoring with 16.8 points per game while Wiggins is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.9 boards per game this season and Caldwell leads the way in assists with 4.3 assists per game. As a team, Bowling Green is scoring 85.6 points per game on 43.9% shooting from the field, 41.9% from behind the arc and 74.2% from the foul line this season.
Evansville is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 6-0-1 in their last 7 non-conference games. Bowling Green is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against the MVC and 9-23 ATS in their last 32 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 home games.
My initial thought was to go with the Aces who have done well ATS this season, but then I see that their leading scorer in Ryan Taylor will be out until at least January. You may be able to beat a subdivision team like Oakland City without your leading scorer, but against a solid team like Bowling Green it’ll be much tougher, and I expect that to catch up to Evansville here, so I’ll lay the bucket with Bowling Green.
