The Davidson Wildcats dropped to 3-3 on the season after being defeated by the 13th ranked UNC Tar Heels, 85-75, this past Friday. Davidson played UNC tough, trailing by just a 52-48 margin with 15:32 left in regulation, however, couldn’t fight back after the Tar Heels 18-4 run gave UNC a 76-58 lead with just 6:17 left in regulation. Davidson shot 40.6% from the field and 42.4% (14-33) from beyond the arc, however, were outrebounded by the Tar Heels by a 54-23 margin. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Peyton Aldridge who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and a block. On the season, Davidson is averaging 84.7 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 13.8 three-pointers per game on 38.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Davidson has been led by Peyton Aldridge (22.0 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 3.7 apg), Jon Axel Gudmundsson (16.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.3 spg), Kellan Grady (16.2 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.5 apg), and Rusty Reigel (7.0 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.0 spg). Defensively, Davidson is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 ppg on 47.2% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of -3.5 and a turnover margin of 3.5.
The Keydets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
VMI finished last season with just six wins and once again are struggling on both sides of the ball as the Keydets rank 296th in scoring offense, 239th in FG%, and 255th in defensive FG%. Davidson has played some tough competition to start the season with games on the road against Nevada and UNC, however, are still one of the best offensive teams in the country as they rank 45th in scoring offense, 1st in assists per game, and 1st in three-pointers made per game. This is a bunch of points, however, VMI lost by 45 on the road to NC State earlier in the season and as I just don’ t see the Davidson offense having any problems with putting up a ton of points in this one, I’m taking the Wildcats to cover this large spread.
