The St. John’s Red Storm face the Grand Canyon Antelopes in the BBVA Compass Valley of the Sun Shootout college basketball tournament.
The St. John’s Red Storm are off to a stellar 7-1 start to 2017-18 which we haven’t seen in recent memory. The Red Storm broke open a two point game with a dominant 54-21 second half run spurred on by a 54.8%-40.8% shooting edge and 25 forced turnovers.

The Red Storm saw Tariq Owens score 12 points and haul in a game high eleven rebounds while Bashir Ahmed tossed in another 13 points.
The Grand Canyon Antelope are trying to bring some recognition to themselves and the WAC and they are doing their part with a 5-1 mark following a 68-56 victory over the UC Riverside Highlanders on Saturday. Grand Canyon was up eleven heading to the locker room and traded baskets the rest of the way. The Antelopes were outshot 38%-34.8% but for 24 turnovers and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to total 19 more shots.
Roberts Blumbergs led the Grand Canyon attack with 14 points and seven rebounds on 5-11 from the field with Casey Benson adding 12 points, four yanks, seven boards and four steals on 4-13 shooting while Oscar Frayer netted eleven points and totaled four pulls and three steals on 5-12 from the field.
St. John’s are 2-10 ATS in their last 12 Tuesday games and over is 11-5 in St. John’s last 16 neutral site games. Grand Canyon are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and Grand Canyon are 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games and Grand Canyon are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games.
I’ll take a shot with a not so bad Grand Canyon squad versus a shorthanded Red Storm…
