The Eastern Illinois Panthers take the floor with the Green Bay Phoenix in Wednesday college basketball.

The Eastern Illinois Panthers have endured a slow start to the year and need to get back in the win column to regain some confidence. Eastern Illinois has dropped consecutive contests after a 67-56 defeat at the Bradley Braves as a seven point underdog on Friday. The Panthers trailed by three to begin the second half but the Braves offense took command and slowly built a lead behind a 52.2%-32.8% edge in marksmanship.

The Eastern Illinois attack leaned heavily on Muusa Dama who poured in a game high 20 points and hauled in seven rebounds on 7-14 from the floor. Terrell Lewis gave the Panthers 13 points on 4-12 shooting while D’Angelo Jackson added seven points, three yanks and three steals.

The Green Bay Phoenix are needing to tighten up on the defensive side of the floor which has hurt the team in back to back  losses following an 86-75 loss at the Belmont Bruins as an 18 point underdog. The Phoenix took a seven point lead in to the second half where the Bruins went on a 51-33 run behind a 49.2%-42.9% shooting difference.

Green Bay had plenty of offensive options with David Jesperson and Kameron Hankerson scoring 16 points apiece with Hankerson adding seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Khalil Small gave Green Bay 13 points, three yanks, seven assists and five steals while TJ Parham added eleven points, six boards and another four steals.

The Phoenix are not the same team they were a few years back as they look to be rebuilding and probably a few years away from making an impact. Eastern Illinois isn’t going anywhere either so I guess we could say the lesser of two evils…
