The Marquette Golden Eagles will look for a big home win to kick off conference play to improve on their 92-51 win over American in their last outing. Sam Hauser led the team in scoring with 29 points on 8 of 10 shooting including a 7 for 9 mark from behind the 3-point line with a share of the team-lead with 5 assists in addition to a team-high 5 assists. Andrew Rowsey came 2nd with 19 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 4 threes, while Markus Howard added 10 points and 5 assists of his own to round out the scoring in double figures for Marquette in the win. Harry Froling added 9 points and a team-high 9 rebounds, while Greg Elliott added a pair of steals and Jamal Cain added a pair of blocks. Howard leads the team in scoring with 21.8 points per game, while Hauser leads the team in rebounding with 5.3 boards per game and Rowsey leads the way in assists with 4.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Marquette is scoring 83 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, 40.1% from behind the arc and 78.4% from the foul line this season.
Xavier is 17-4 ATS in their last 21 games overall and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games while the over is 8-3 in their last 11 games following a win. Marquette is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following a win and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 home games against a team with a winning road record. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
With lines like these, it’s no wonder why the road team has had so much success. Marquette has a talented bunch of players that could hang with Xavier, but the problem is that the Musketeers are a much tougher team than American, and are shooting the lights out this season. If this line was closer to double figures I’d consider the points, but this line is more than reasonable for Xavier to cover, even on the road, so I’ll lay the points.
