The Northern Kentucky Norse lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 7-5 on the season after being defeated by the 8th ranked Texas A&M Aggies, 64-58, on December 19th. Northern Kentucky had trouble scoring the basketball and couldn’t fight back after trailing by a 56-49 margin with 3:55 left in regulation. Northern Kentucky shot 36.5% from the field and 25.0% (7-28) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Norse was Drew McDonald who had a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. On the season, Northern Kentucky is averaging 81.4 ppg on 49.3% shooting from the field. The Norse are averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Northern Kentucky has been led by Drew McDonald (16.1 ppg, .6 rpg, 1.8 apg), Carson Williams (14.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.1 spg), Lavone Holland II (13.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.2 spg), and Jordan Garnett (8.3 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg). Defensively, Northern Kentucky is holding their opponents to an average of 65.8 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Norse have a rebound margin of 0.3 and a turnover margin of 4.5.
The Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Norse are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. Horizon League opponents and 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 home games.
IUPUI has had a tough season to date and things won’t get any easier for the Jaguars if they don’t improve their defense that ranks 269th in scoring defense and 343rd in defensive FG%. Northern Kentucky couldn’t pull off the upset against Texas A&M, however, the Norse should be one of the better Horizon teams this season and currently ranked 62nd in scoring offense and 56th in scoring defense. Northern Kentucky has played well at home this season and as I just don’t see the Norse having any problems scoring in this one, I think Northern Kentucky does enough to cover this large home spread.
