Out at Elam Center on Thursday, the Tennessee State Tigers will be taking on the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks in college basketball activity.
The Tigers enter this game with a 5-6 record so far. Tennessee State has lost their last three games, falling to North Carolina A&T, Texas and Purdue in that time. In the Boilermakers game, the Tigers’ top scorer was Delano Spencer with 13 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Spencer tops out the Tennessee State stat sheet with 15.0 PPG and 3.3 RPG to his name. The only other Tigers player in double-figures is Chrisitan Mekowulu (11.6 PPG; 9.2 RPG) but Ken’Darrius Hamilton is close on 9.2 PPG.
Over on the Tenn-Martin side, they’re sitting at 5-8 this year. The Skyhawks have won four of their last five games, taking out Arkansas State, Cincinnati Clermont, Blue Mountain College and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. In that one, Tenn-Martin’s top scorer was Fatodd Lewis with 27 points.
Matthew Butler leads the Skyhawks on 17.2 PPG with 2.5 RPG and 3.3 APG this year. Also averaging in double-figures for Tenn-Martin are Lewis (15.7 PPG; 9.1 RPG) and Darius Thompson (14.2 PPG).
The Tigers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games. Tennessee State is also 23-9 ATS in their last 32 games following a straight-up loss of more than 20 points and the under is 6-1 in their last seven versus the Ohio Valley.
Meanwhile, Tenn-Martin is 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games versus a team with a losing straight-up record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. The Skyhawks are also 0-4 ATS in their last four games following a straight-up win and the over is 4-1 in their last five Thursday games.
The Tennessee State offense has been sleepwalking over the past three games, not scoring more than 48 points in either of their last two outings. As for Tenn-Martin, they’ve been scoring pretty well in their wins lately, but realistically they haven’t had much competition. Still, I like the Skyhawks to bang out a win here.
