Sun Belt college basketball gets underway with the Texas State Bobcats locking horns with the Appalachian State Mountaineers.
This looks like another Texas State Bobcats squad that needs to control the scoreboard to succeed. The Bobcats did just that in a 74-66 win at the Rice Owls as a five point favorite. Both teams connected at 47% with Texas State riding a second half surge because of a 21-9 edge at the foul line.

Nijal Pearson led the Bobcats offense with a game high 18 points with five boards, three assists and three steals on 4-10 from the floor with an 8-10 effort at the stripe. Marlin Davis and Immanuel King netted 15 points apiece with King hauling in eleven rebounds on 12-18 shooting while Tyler Blount added eight points, four yanks and five assists.
The Appalachian State Mountaineers have stumbled to the beginning of conference play with four consecutive defeats capped off by an 86-53 loss at the Hampton Pirates where neither end of the floor game through. Appalachian State trailed 39-22 at the halfway point and never challenged with a 51.7%-28.8% difference in shooting.
The Mountaineers received 17 points and four yanks from Ronshad Shabazz on 7-17 from the floor along with a game high eight turnovers. Justin Forrest gave Appalachian State 12 points, three yanks and four steals on 4-12 accuracy while Isaac Johnson scored ten points and snagged seven rebounds.
