We have some MAAC-tion on tap Friday afternoon, as the Rider Broncs take on the Canisius Golden Griffins in a college basketball matchup.
The Rider Broncs will look to build on back-to-back wins, including a 71-70 road upset of Penn State in their last outing. Dimencio Vaughn led the team with 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting with a pair of threes and 7 rebounds. Tyere Marshall came 2nd with 15 points while Frederick Scott added 14 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Stevie Jordan chipped in 12 points with a team-high 7 assists and a pair of steals to round out the scoring in double figures for Rider in the win. Jordan Allen leads the team in scoring with an average of 15.9 points per game, while Scott leads the team with 7.1 rebounds per game and Jordan Allen leads the team in assists with 7.1 helpers per game this season. As a team, Rider is scoring 82 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field, 36.4% from behind the arc and 65.2% from the foul line this season.

The Canisius Golden Griffins will look to build on a pair of back-to-back wins of their own, including a 76-62 victory over Robert Morris last time out. Isaiah Reese led the team with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Malik Johnson came 2nd with 13 points on 5 of 6 shooting with 3 threes, while Selvedin Planincic added 11 points and 5 blocks. Jermaine Crumpton chipped in 10 points in 17 minutes to round out the double-digit scoring for the Griffins in the win. Reese leads the team in scoring with an average of 16 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, while Johnson is the team’s leading assist man by dishing out 5 assists per game this season. As a team, Canisius is scoring 70.8 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 33.4% from behind the arc and 67.8% from the foul line this season.
Rider is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record. Canisius is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games while the under is 20-6-1 ATS in their last 27 home games.
Head-to-head, these two teams have traded wins in each of the last 5 meetings, with Canisius escaping with an 85-77 road win last season. With that said, I’m a tad concerned about Rider’s chances here, as they’ve had a week off from that emotional road win against Penn State and Canisius has a perfect record ATS at home this season. Sometimes a long layoff like that does bad things to your momentum and you just want to keep playing. However, I think Rider’s advantage on offense is enough to carry Rider to the win so I’ll take the free point with the Broncs in this one.
