We have some non-conference college basketball action on tap Friday, as the Youngstown State Penguins take on the Indiana Hoosiers.
The Youngstown State Penguins will try to snap a horrible 8 game losing skid after falling to Utah State in their last outing by a final score of 91-74. Cameron Morse led the team with 23 points on 8 of 23 shooting with 5 threes, 5 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists. Braun Hatfield came 2nd with 12 points while Garrett Covington added 10 points and a pair of steals. Naz Bohannon added a team-high 9 rebounds in the loss. Hartfield leads the team in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game, while Bohannon leads the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and Morse leads the way in assists with 3.6 per game this season. As a team, Youngstown State is scoring 76.8 points per game on 43.2% shooting from the field, 30.9% from behind the arc and 59.4% from the foul line this season.

The Indiana Hoosiers will try to find some consistent play after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 6 games, including an 87-59 win over Tennessee Tech in their last outing. Josh Newark led the team with 20 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 6 assists. Robert Johnson came 2nd with 12 points and Freddie McSwain added 10 points with 6 rebounds to round out the scoring in double figures for the Hoosiers in the win. Devonte Green added 9 points and a team-high 7 rebounds while Juwan Morgan added 9 points of his own with 3 blocks and 6 rebounds. Morgan leads the Hoosiers with an average of 15.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game this season, while Newark is the team’s leading assist man with 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Indiana is scoring 75.5 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field, 31.4% from behind the arc and 66.8% from the foul line this season.
Youngstown State is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-11 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games while the over is 12-5 in their last 17 road games. Indiana is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against the Horizon League while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a win.
The only case I could make for Youngstown State here, is that in their only game as a 20+ point favourite this season, the Hoosiers failed to cover as a 24.5-point favourite against Howard and the Hoosiers just got destroyed by 20 against IPFW as a 13.5 point favourite. However, this is still a very good Indiana team that has that signature win over Notre Dame and just rebounded in a romp over Tennessee Tech, a team that I have a level or two above Youngstown State here. I wish the line wasn’t as thick, but I can’t see the Penguins hanging around in this one so I’ll begrudgingly lay the points with Indiana here.
