Early Saturday out at XL Center, the Wichita State Shockers and the Connecticut Huskies will be matching up on the college basketball court.
Wichita State comes in here at 10-2 on the year. The Shockers lost to Oklahoma a couple weeks back but since have beaten Arkansas State and Florida Gulf Coast. In that last game, Wichita State’s Landry Shamet led the way on 23 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Shamet is the top Shockers scorer this year with 17.1 PPG and 4.6 RPG, and Darral Willis is second with 12.8 PPG and 7.5 RPG. Also in double-figures for Wichita State are Shaquille Morris (12.1 PPG) and Conner Frankamp (11.5 PPG).
Over on the Huskies side, they’re sitting at 7-5 this year. Connecticut has lost three of their last four games to Syracuse, Arizona and Auburn. In that Auburn game, UConn’s top scorer was Jalen Adams with 14 points.
Heading up the scoring this year for Connecticut is Adams, with 17.2 PPG and 4.3 RPG. Also in the double-digit club for the Huskies are Terry Larrier (15.5 PPG; 5.3 RPG) and Christian Vital (12.5 PPG; 4.7 RPG).
Wichita State is 6-2 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games following an ATS loss. The Shockers are also 46-21-1 ATS in their last 68 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are 6-20 ATS in their last 26 home games and 8-27-1 ATS in their last 36 following a straight-up loss. UConn is also 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall and 0-6 ATS in their last six Saturday games.
Wichita State hasn’t exactly looked dominant lately, as evidenced by their trouble dispatching Florida Gulf Coast in their last outing. That said, UConn isn’t scoring well against quality competition this year, posting just 122 points combined in their last two games. It may be ugly, but I like the Shockers to cover here.
