Down at FIU Arena on Saturday evening, the Florida Atlantic Owls will meet the FIU Golden Panthers in a fun college basketball matchup.
The Owls come into this game at 6-6 overall this year. Florida Atlantic has lost their last three games, falling to Arkansas State, Texas Tech and Minnesota in that time. In the Gophers game, Gerdarius Troutman led the Owls on 18 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Tops in scoring this season for Florida Atlantic is Ronald Delph with 13.8 PPG and 9.1 RPG. Troutman is second for the Owls on 13.7 PPG, and Justin Massey is right there with 13.5 PPG.
As for FIU, they’re 6-7 on the season thus far. The Panthers have lost three of their last four games to North Florida, James Madison and Hartford. In the Hartford game, Panthers guard Trejon Jacob led the Panthers on 20 points.
Jacob is also the leading scorer for FIU this year with 16.5 PPG, and Eric Lockett is second on 15.8 PPG and 6.5 RPG. Also in double-digit averages for the Panthers are Brian Beard (15.2 PPG) and Willy Nunez (10.9 PPG; seven games).
The Owls are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss. Florida Atlantic is also 1-4 ATS in their last five versus Conference USA and 0-4 ATS in their last four road games.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine overall and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 home games. The over is 11-1 in FIU’s last 12 home games and 18-6 in their last 24 overall.
FAU has been getting walloped over their last two games, outscored 185-114 combined. To be fair, however, the Owls have played some big competition in those games. FIU hasn’t exactly been going against stellar teams lately but they’ve been hanging in there for the most part. I like the Panthers to bag a cover here.
