We’ve got a fun college basketball matchup coming from O’Connell Center on Saturday as the Vanderbilt Commodores take on the Florida Gators.
Vanderbilt comes in here at 5-7 on the season. The Commodores have won their last two games versus Houston Baptist and Alcorn State. In that Alcorn State game, Vanderbilt’s Jeff Roberson put up 21 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Roberson leads the Commodores in scoring this year on 14.4 PPG and 8.3 RPG, and Matthew Fisher-Davis is second on 12.0 PPG and 5.5 RPG. Also in double-figures for Vanderbilt is Riley LaChance with 11.7 PPG.
Over on the Florida side, they’re sitting at 8-4 so far. The Gators have won their last two outings as well, beating James Madison and Incarnate Word. In that Incarnate Word game, Florida’s Chris Chiozza put up 16 points.
This year, Jalen Hudson is tops in scoring for the Gators with 18.2 PPG, and Egor Koulechov is behind him on 14.1 PPG and 6.7 RPG. Also in double-digits for Florida this year are Chiozza (12.9 PPG) and KeVaughn Allen (11.8 PPG).
The Commodores are 8-1 ATS in the last nine versus the SEC and 0-4 ATS in the last four games following a straight-up win. Vanderbilt is also 0-5 ATS in the last five road games and 0-11 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Meanwhile, the Gators are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the SEC. Florida is also 1-5 ATS in the last six games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five home games.
Vanderbilt has been pouring in the points over the last two games (173 combined) but to be fair they haven’t exactly been going up against big-name competition. As for Florida, they’ve laid some duds this year but also have managed some impressive wins. Still, I think Vanderbilt has enough scoring to keep pace here.
