We have some college basketball action out of the Colonial Athletic Association on Saturday afternoon, as the Northeastern Huskies face off against the James Madison Dukes in a college basketball matchup.
The Northeastern Huskies will try to bounce back after having their 5 game winning streak halted thanks to an 84-65 loss to St. Bonaventure last time out. Anthony Green led the team with 15 points on 7 of 9 shooting with a team-high 8 rebounds, while Vada Pusica added 13 points with a perfect 9 of 9 mark from the foul line and a team-high 4 assists. Devon Begley added 12 points on 4 of 9 shooting with a pair of threes as the last Husky to finish in double digits scoring in the loss. The James Madison Dukes will look to bounce back after dropping 9 of their last 12 games, including a 72-63 loss to Florida in their last outing. Ramone Snowden led the team by going a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor with 3 threes and a 5 of 6 mark from the foul line with 8 rebounds and a pair of steals. Matt Lewis came 2nd with 14 points while Stuckey Mosley and Darius Banks each added 10 points to finish off the double digit scoring for the Dukes. Mosley shot 4 of 14 with a team-high 4 assists, while Banks added a team-high 3 steals. Mosley leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game, while Develle Phillips leads the team in rebounding with 7.8 rebounds per game and McLean leads the team in assists with 2.8 helpers per game this season. As a team, James Madison is scoring 75.2 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field, 34.7% from behind the arc and 73.4% from the foul line this season.
Northeastern is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1-1 in their last 6 games overall. James Madison is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. Northeastern is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams at James Madison.
Despite having their winning streak snapped, I think the Huskies are still the team to beat in this one as they’re playing better basketball much more consistently than we can say for the Dukes. I’ll give James Madison credit for hanging in tough against a good Florida team, but the Huskies have had James Madison’s number when the two meet on the Dukes’ home floor, so I’ll lay the points with the Huskies here.
