Richmond vs. Davidson - 12/30/17 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Richmond Spiders lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 2-10 on the season after being defeated by the Boston College Eagles, 78-73 in OT, this past Saturday. Richmond fought back from a double-digit deficit in the 2nd half to force overtime, however, couldn’t secure the win after the Spiders struggled offensively in the overtime period. Richmond allowed Boston College to shoot 45.3% from the field and 40.0% (10-25) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Spiders was Grant Golden who had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, Richmond is averaging 65.8 ppg on 42.7% shooting from the field. The Spiders are averaging 6.6 three-pointers per game on 29.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Richmond has been led by Grant Golden (15.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.5 bpg), De’Monte Buckingham (13.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.2 spg), Jacob Gilyard (10.4 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 3.4 apg, 2.4 spg), and Nick Sherod (9.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.3 apg). Defensively, Richmond is allowing their opponents to average 77.2 ppg on 50.8% shooting from the field. The Spiders have a rebound margin of -6.5 and a turnover margin of 1.7.

The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. A-10 opponents however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Spiders are 5-2-2 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a losing road record however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Davidson has played a tough schedule to start season, which included games against UNC and Virginia, however,  has still be solid offensively as the Wildcats rank 88th in scoring offense a, T-9th in assists, and 7th in three-pointers made per game. It’s been a tough season for Richmond as the Spiders have struggled in all aspects of the game as Richmond ranks 328th in scoring offense, 282nd in scoring defense, and 349th in defensive FG%. Richmond played well on the road against Boston College, however, the Spiders are just not that great of a team this season and as I think the Wildcats and Peyton Aldridge will have plenty of success on the offensive end, I’m taking Davidson to cover this small road spread.
