The Western Catamounts begin their SoCon schedule with a visit to the Citadel Bulldogs in Saturday college basketball.
The Western Carolina Catamounts haven’t been given much ink in the Southern preseason polls and we won’t know a lot about this team until we see them in conference action. Western Carolina enters SoCon play off of a 72-61 defeat to the High Point Panthers where a nine point deficit at the half was too much to overcome with a 47.1%-32.4% difference in shooting being decisive.

Mike Amius was the Catamounts most reliable offensive option with 13 points and eight rebounds on 4-6 from the floor including a 5-6 mark at the line. Deriece Parks gave Western Carolina 12 points and three assists on 4-10 shooting followed by Matt Halvorsen with ten points on 4-11 from the field.
The Citadel Bulldogs are known for scoring the basketball and that appears to be their MO once again in 2017-18. The Citadel never got their offense going in a 94-65 loss at the Ohio State Buckeyes as a 31 point underdog last time out. The Bulldogs trailed by 21 points at the halfway point with a 50%-32.4% difference in shooting being the deciding factor.
Kaiden Rice paced the Citadel attack with 14 points on 4-12 from the floor on a 4-10 effort from long range. The twosome of Zane Najdawi and Alex Reed gave the Bulldogs eleven point apiece while Tariq Simmons and Hayden Brown combined for 17 points and ten rebounds.
Over is 7-2 in Western Carolina last 9 overall and Western Carolina are 7-15 ATS in their last 22 road games. Under is 7-1 in Citadel last 8 vs. Southern and Citadel are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 home games and under is 8-3 in Citadel last 11 Saturday games. Under is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings in The Citadel and Western Carolina are 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings.
This looks like the ultimate roll the dice type game with neither having success thus far…
