Colorado State vs. San Diego State - 1/2/18 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado State Rams improved to 8-7 (1-1 MW) on the season after defeating the San Jose Spartans, 59-52, this past Saturday. Colorado State struggled offensively in the 1st half and trailed at halftime by a 31-20 margin, however, stepped up their defensive effort in the 2nd half and was able to secure the come from behind victory. Colorado State shot 35.2% from the field and 34.8% (8-23) from beyond the arc in the win. Leading the way for the Rams was Prentiss Nixon who had 19 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, and 2 steals. On the season, Colorado State is averaging 69.8 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 30.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Colorado State has been led by Prentiss Nixon (17.7 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.3 spg), Deion James (10.8 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.3 apg), Che Bob (9.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg), and Jeremiah Paige (9.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.1 spg). Defensively, Colorado State is allowing their opponents to average 75.0 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 2.2 and a turnover margin of -0.1.

The Aztecs are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall however, are just 5-11-2 ATS in their last 18 road games. The Rams are 18-8-1 ATS in their last 27 games vs. Mountain West opponents however, are just 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up win.

San Diego State traded wins and losses throughout the month of December, however, showed that they are a dangerous team after upsetting Gonzaga at home. The Aztecs are led by their defense that ranks 44th in scoring defense, 43rd in defensive FG%, and 61st in turnover margin. Colorado State has won 4 of their last 5 games however, has struggled on both ends of the court as they rank just 277th in scoring offense and T-242nd in scoring defense. Although Colorado State might have some trouble scoring against the Aztecs defense, the Rams have been outstanding at home this season as they have posted a 7-0 record, and I think Colorado State does enough with the points to cover in this one.
