Out at Cintas Center on Tuesday, the Butler Bulldogs and the Xavier Musketeers will be matching up in college basketball action.
Butler comes in at 12-3 on the season. The Bulldogs have won their last four games in a row, most recently beating Villanova in a shocking upset on Saturday. In that one, Butler forward Kelan Martin led the way on 24 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Martin is the top scorer for Butler on the season as well, with 18.9 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Also in double-figures for the Bulldogs are Kamar Baldwin (14.5 PPG), Paul Jorgensen (12.3 PPG) and Tyler Wideman (10.1 PPG).
Over on the Xavier side, they’re currently 14-1 on the year. The Musketeers have won nine straight games, most recently a 77-72 win over DePaul. In that one, Xavier’s JP Macura led the team on 19 points.
Trevon Bluiett is the top Xavier scorer this season on 19.7 PPG and 5.6 RPG. The only other Musketeer in double-figures is Macura (12.9 PPG), but Tyrique Jones (9.4 PPG) and Kaiser Gates (9.3 PPG) are close.
The Bulldogs are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a straight-up win and 1-5 ATS in the last six road games. Butler is also 1-5 ATS in their last six road games versus a team with a winning home record and the over is 7-0 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Musketeers are 5-1 ATS in their last six versus the Big East and 18-5 ATS in their last 23 games overall. Xavier is also 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games and 6-14 ATS in the last 20 games following an ATS loss.
Butler is on a smoking hot streak offensively. Including a 2-OT thriller against Georgetown, they’ve scored at least 85 points in each of their last four games. This marks game two of a four-game gauntlet against ranked teams for the Bulldogs, and Xavier is really going to have to play tight defense if they want to hold them off. This should be a fun game to watch, and I’ll take Butler here.
