The Sacramento State Hornets have struggled for much of their non-conference schedule but opened up conference play on a positive note in an 80-75 victory versus the Portland State Vikings as an 8.5 point home dog on Saturday. Strong 60.4% marksmanship outdid the Vikings 41.7% shooting and their 19 extra looks.

The Hornets leaned heavily on the production of Justin Strings and he didn’t disappoint with a contest high 34 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 16-18 marksmanship. Jordan Tolbert gave Sacramento State 19 points, three yanks and four helpers on 7-13 from the floor in what was a two man offense.
The Idaho Vandals are gunning for their second conference win after an 81-77 defeat at the Northern Colorado Bears on Sunday left the team with a 1-1 record in the Big Sky. Both teams sank shots at around 45% but Northern Colorado connected on four more long balls which turned out to be a difference maker.
The twosome of Brayon Blake and Victor Saunders were the Vandals top options with 17 points apiece with Blake hauling in a team high eight rebounds. Perrion Callandret gave Idaho 16 points, seven boards and six assists on 5-9 from the floor while Jordan Scott and Arkadiy Mkrtychyan combined for 19 points.
