The 25th ranked Clemson Tigers won their 9th straight game and improved to 13-1 (2-0 ACC) on the season after defeating the Boston College Eagles, 74-70, this past Thursday. Clemson was outstanding in the 1st half as the Tigers went into halftime with a 38-23 lead and was able to hold off a late charge by Boston College to secure the road victory. Clemson shot 42.9% from the field and 34.8% (8-23) from beyond the arc in the win. Leading the way for the Tigers was Donte Grantham who had a double-double with 23 points, 14 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. On the season, Clemson is averaging 78.1 ppg on 49.2% shooting from the field. The Tigers are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 36.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Clemson has been led by Marcquise Reed (15.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.5 spg), Donte Grantham (15.2 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 2.3 apg), Shelton Mitchell (12.4 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 4.4 apg), and Elijah Thomas (11.6 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.0 apg, 2.5 bpg). Defensively, Clemson is holding their opponents to an average of 63.1 ppg on 39.8% shooting from the field. The Tigers have a rebound margin of 4.6 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The Cardinals are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Tigers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Louisville has won 7 of their last 8 games and although the Cardinals can struggle on the offensive end, Louisville is once against strong on the defensive end of the court as they rank 44th in scoring defense, 15th in defensive FG%, and 2nd in blocks per game. Clemson continued their strong start to their season with a solid road win over Boston College and has been solid on both sides of the ball this season as the Tigers rank 98th in scoring offense, 30th in FG%, 21st in scoring defense, and 40th in defensive FG%. Louisville hasn’t played well in their limited games on the road this season and as I think the Cardinals offense will struggle against the Tigers defense, I’m taking Clemson to cover this home spread.
