The Eastern Kentucky Colonels lost their 4th straight game and dropped to 6-10 (0-3 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars, 85-82, this past Thursday night. Eastern Kentucky fought back to make it a game late after trailing by a 75-63 margin with 6:09 remaining in regulation, however, just couldn’t get enough defensive stops to secure the come from behind victory. Eastern Kentucky allowed SIU-Edwardsville to shoot 56.6% from the field and 52.9% (9-17) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Colonels was Nick Mayo who had 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. On the season, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 72.2 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Colonels are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 34.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Defensively, Eastern Kentucky is allowing their opponents to average 76.9 ppg on 46.4% shooting from the field. The Colonels have a rebound margin of -1.9 and a turnover margin of 0.6. Jackson Davis is currently questionable for this matchup as he missed last game due to a concussion.
The Panthers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS win. The Colonels are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. OVC opponents however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Eastern Illinois has played better as of late, winning 3 of their last 4 games, and although their offensive can struggle to score the basketball, the Panthers do have a solid defense that is ranked 66th in scoring defense. Eastern Kentucky has lost 6 of their last 8 games and has had trouble getting anything going on either end of the court as the Colonels rank just T-236thin scoring offense and 277th in scoring defense. This has a the making to be an ugly, low scoring game, and although I generally like to go with the home team in such matchups, I think Eastern Illinois has more talent in this one and that their defense will keep this one within the number. Take Eastern Illinois and the points.
