Portland State led by a 40-38 margin at halftime however, couldn’t fight back after a 16-0 run by the Eagles gave Eastern Washington a 64-52 lead midway through the 2nd half. Portland State shot just 36.8% from the field and 15.0% (3-20) from beyond the arc in the loss. Idaho vs. Portland State - 1/6/18 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Idaho Vandals Improved to 10-5 (2-1 Big Sky) on the season after defeating the Sacramento State Hornets, 69-68, this past Thursday night. Idaho trailed by a 65-54 margin with 7:42 left in regulation, however used a 15-0 run to take a 69-64 lead and held on late for the victory. Idaho shot 41.1% from the field and outrebounded the Hornets by a 36-30 margin in the win. Leading the way for the Vandals was Brayon Blake who had a double-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. On the season, Idaho is averaging 72.9 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Vandals are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 40.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Idaho has been led by Victor Sanders (19.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.0 spg), Brayon Blake (14.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 1.3 apg), Nate Sherwood (10.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.9 apg, and Perrion Callandret (10.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 3.3 apg). Defensively, Idaho is holding their opponents to an average of 64.7 ppg on 39.1% shooting from the field. The Vandals have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of -2.9.

The Vikings are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 Saturday games and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 road games. The Vandals are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.

The Portland State Vikings had a great start to their season with close losses against Duke and Butler, and although they’ve had a slow start to conference play, the Vikings should still have some success with their offense that ranks 3rd in scoring offense and 1st in turnover margin. Idaho has traded wins and losses over the past two weeks and have been led by their defense that ranks 33rd in scoring defense and 26th in defensive FG%. Idaho has a solid defense, however, the Vandals have one of the worst turnover margins in the country and as I think the Vikings come with an extra effort in this one to avoid an 0-3 start in Big Sky play, I’m taking the Vikings and the points in this one.
