USA TODAY Sports

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns won their 3rd straight game and improved to 13-3 (3-0 Sun Belt) on the season after defeating the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 78-45, this past Thursday. Louisiana was outstanding on both ends of the court and had little trouble securing the victory after taking a 46-17 halftime lead. Louisiana held Appalachian State to 15.8% (3-19) shooting from beyond the arc and outrebounded the Mountaineers by a 46-33 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Ragin’ Cajuns was Bryce Washington who had a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, Louisiana is averaging 85.4 ppg on 47.5% shooting from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Louisiana has been led by Frank Bartley IV (15.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.4 spg), JaKeenan Gant (15.9 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.1 apg, 2.2 bpg), Bryce Washington (10.6 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.4 spg), and Malik Marquetti (8.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 2.1 apg). Defensively, Louisiana is allowing their opponents to average 71.9 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The Ragin’ Cajuns have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of 1.9. Louisiana will be without Jakeenan Gant who will be out until the end of January after suffering a thumb injury from their last game.

The Chanticleers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a straight up loss. The Ragin’ Cajuns are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 games vs. Sun Belt opponents and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win.

Coastal Carolina started conference play with an impressive victory over UT-Arlington and although they have struggled in their last two games Texas State and Louisiana-Monroe, the Chanticleers are still a solid team that ranks 141st in scoring offense and 127th in scoring defense. Louisiana has won 10 of their last 11 games and has been outstanding on the offensive end as the Ragin’ Cajuns rank 21st in scoring offense, 72nd in FG%, and 32nd in rebound margin. Louisiana has had a great start to their season, however, I think their record is largely due to a soft non-conference schedule and as I think this Chanticleers team will be one of the better teams in the Sun Belt this season, I’m taking Coastal Carolina and the points.
