We have some C-USA college basketball action on the schedule on Saturday evening, as the UTEP Miners take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.

The UTEP Miners will look to climb back to .500 in conference play after falling to 1-2 in C-USA action after an 85-75 loss to Southern Miss in their last outing. Isiah Osborne led the team with 17 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 3 threes, while Omega Harris and Matt Willms each added 11 points. Harris went 4 of 8 from the floor, hitting all 3 of his attempts form behind the arc with a share of the team lead with 3 assists. Trey Touchet added 10 points with 3 assists of his own to round out the double digit scoring for the Miners in the loss. Trey Wade added 7 points to match his team-leading 7 rebounds in the losing effort for UTEP. Keith Frazier leads the Miners with an average of 14.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game while Harris leads the team in assists with 2.1 helpers per game this season. As a team, UTEP is scoring 68.8 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 33.4% from behind the arc and 67.8% from the foul line this season.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will be looking for their first C-USA win of the year after falling to 0-3 in conference with a 78-76 loss to UTSA in their last outing. Jacobi Boykins led the team with 24 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 3 threes and 6 rebounds, while Amorie Archibald added 10 points as the only other Bulldog to score in double figures in the loss. Daquan Bracey added 9 points to match his 9 assists, while Joniah White added 8 points to match his team-leading 8 rebounds with 3 blocks. Bracey leads the Bulldogs with an average of 15.2 points and 5.1 assists per game while Boykins is the team’s leading rebounder with 5.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Louisiana Tech is scoring 79.5 points per game on 46.4% shooting from the field, 38.3% from behind the arc and 73.4% from the foul line this season.

UTEP is 15-3 ATS in their last 18 conference matchups and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Louisiana Tech is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a loss while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games overall. The home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

UTEP has been a covering machine in conference, however they’ve failed to cover in 2 of their 3 conference games this season, and I think part of that is due to the loss of Frazier who has taken a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. Louisiana Tech is a better team than their record shows, and given the success ATS for the home team in this matchup, I think Louisiana Tech comes out firing and hungry for their first win, so I’ll lay the points with the Bulldogs to cover here.
