The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers are looking like a strong contender in the CUSA with the ability]y to both score and defend. Western Kentucky is aiming for a 3-0 start to conference play after downing the Southern Miss Golden Eagles 82-66 as a 15.5 point favorite. The Hilltoppers owned a 52%-35.2% edge in marksmanship including 12 long balls and an 18-22 effort at the line.

Dwight Coleby paced the Western Kentucky offense with a contest high 20 points with seven boards on 5-7 from the field with a 10-10 mark at the stripe. The Hilltoppers saw Darius Thompson and Justin Johnson score 15 points each with Johnson posting 15 rebounds while Taveion Hollingsworth and Lamonte Bearden added 12 and ten points.
It seems like the Marshall Thundering Herd are always one of the top teams in the CUSA and that shouldn’t change in 2017-18. Marshall has won back to back conference games after upending the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 78-65. The Thundering Herd held a small 43.9%-41.1% shooting edge and sank 20-23 at the stripe.
Leading scorer Jon Elmore was at it again with a monster 32 point performance for Marshall with nine rebounds and five assists on 10-17 from the field and 11-12 at the stripe. CJ Burks gave the Thundering Herd 23 points, four pulls and four assists on 8-15 while Jarrod West contributed 12 points.
