Out at Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Saturday, the Xavier Musketeers and the Providence Friars will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Xavier enters this game with a 15-1 record overall. The Musketeers have won their last 10 straight games, most recently taking out Butler on Tuesday. In that one, Xavier’s JP Macura put up 20 points to lead the team.
USA TODAY Sports
On the season, the Musketeers’ leading scorer is Trevon Bluiett, with 19.8 PPG and 5.7 RPG. Macura is the only other Xavier player in double-figures (13.3 PPG), but Kaiser Gates is close on 9.4 PPG.
Over on the Providence side, they’re sitting at 10-6 on the season. The Friars have lost their last two games versus Creighton and Marquette. In that Marquette game, Providence’s Kyron Cartwright led the way on 29 points.
This season, Rodney Bullock is the top scorer for the Friars with 16.9 PPG and 6.7 RPG. Alpha Diallo (11.2 PPG; 5.9 RPG) and Cartwright (10.3 PPG; 6.1 APG) are also in double-figures for Providence so far.
Xavier is 6-1 ATS in their last seven versus the Big East and 10-2 ATS in the last 12 road games. The Musketeers are also 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall and 20-8 ATS in the last 28 following an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Friars are 7-2 ATS in the last nine Saturday games and 12-5 ATS in their last 17 versus the Big East. Providence is also 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 home games.
Although they’ve had a couple of close calls along the way, Xavier has been pretty well dominant during this winning streak. As for Providence, they’ve been scoring reasonably well despite the losses (not including 64 points versus Creighton) and have some solid names on their roster. I like the Friars to bag a cover here.
