An Atlantic Ten battle is brewing when the St. Joseph’s Hawks host the St. Bonaventure Bonnies in a college basketball matchup.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies have been outstanding in 2017-18 although an 82-72 defeat at the struggling Dayton Flyers on Wednesday was puzzling. St. Bonaventure was taken out of their game early with a 14 point deficit at the half staring them in the face. The Bonnies were held to 39.1% shooting which couldn’t compete with the Flyers 55.8%.

Matt Mobley was St. Bonaventure’s best offensive threat with 24 points and eight rebounds on 7-19 from the floor including a 5-14 mark on long balls. The Bonnies received 15 points and seven assists from Jaylen Adams on 3-11 shooting while LaDarrien Griffin and Courtney Stockard combined for 17 points and eleven rebounds.
The St. Joseph Hawks haven’t found their mojo this season but perhaps their 87-81, overtime victory versus the VCU Rams on Wednesday gives the team a much needed spark. St. Joseph’s overcame a 45.5%-37.7% shooting deficit by forcing 20 turnovers and holding a decisive 29-5 advantage at the charity stripe.
The balanced Hawks offense received 19 points and three yanks from Taylor Funk on 5-10 from the floor including 4-7 from beyond the arc followed by a 15 point, seven boar effort from Pierfrancisco Oliva on 5-8 shooting. James Demery and Nick Robinson gave the Hawks 13 points apiece and eight rebounds each while Shavar Newkirk scored 12 points.
Under is 7-1 in St. Bonaventure last 8 road games and St. Bonaventure are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. St. Joes are 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 home games and St. Joes are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. Atlantic 10 and St. Joes are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games.
I have to believe St. Bonaventure is better then they showed versus Dayton and if so this will be a road win…
