Over at Cameron Hall on Saturday, the UNC Greensboro Spartans and the VMI Keydets will be meeting up on the college basketball court.
The Spartans come into this game with a 10-4 record overall. UNC Greensboro has won their last two games versus Southeastern and Wofford. In that Wofford game, UNC Greensboro’s Francis Alonso put up 26 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Alonso is the top scorer for the Spartans this season with 18.4 PPG and 3.0 APG. The only other UNC Greensboro player averaging in double-figures this year is Marvin Smith (11.1 PPG), and James Dickey is tops in rebounding with 8.5 RPG.
Over on the VMI side, they’re currently 5-7 on the year. The Keydets have lost their last two outings, falling to VCU and Furman. In the Furman matchup, Keydets guard Bubba Parham was tops on 21 points.
Parham is also the leading scorer on the year, averaging 12.8 PPG. He’s the only VMI player in double-digits this season, but Austin Vereen (9.6 PPG) and Tyler Creammer (9.1 PPG) are close.
UNC Greensboro is 4-0 ATS in their last four games following an ATS loss and 5-1-2 ATS in their last eight following a straight-up win. The Spartans are also 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games overall and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games.
Meanwhile, the Keydets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss. VMI is also 1-5 ATS in their last six following a straight-up loss and 0-4 ATS in their last four versus Southern.
UNC Greensboro’s stats don’t jump off the page, but upon closer inspection they’ve got a pretty balanced and talented roster. That’s why the Spartans have won six of their last seven. As for VMI, they were scoring pretty well in a two-game stretch last month, but since haven’t put up more than 65 points in either of their last two outings. All in all, I like UNC Greensboro here.
