We have some Big East conference action on the hardwood, as the Georgetown Hoyas take on the St. John’s Red Storm in a college basketball matchup.
The Georgetown Hoyas will look to rebound after falling to 1-3 in Big East play after a 90-66 loss to Creighton in their last outing. Jagan Mosely led the team with 11 points and a team-high 4 assists as the lone Hoya to finish in double figures scoring in the loss. Kaleb Johnson added 6 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, while Trey Dickerson added 9 points and a pair of steals and Jessie Govan chipped in 7 points and 5 rebounds. Govan still leads Georgetown by averaging a double-double per game with 18.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game, while Jonathan Mulmore leads the team in assists with 4.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Georgetown is scoring 80.6 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field, 34.3% from behind the arc and 78.4% from the foul line, the 7th-best free throw percentage in the country.

The St. John’s Red Storm will also be looking to rebound and will be in search of their first conference win of the year after losing 4 straight to open Big East play thanks to a 91-74 loss to DePaul in their last outing. Bashir Ahmed led the team with 21 points on 7 of 14 shooting with 3 threes, while Shamorie Ponds added 15 points with a team-high 6 assists. Marvin Clark II chipped in 11 points on 4 of 11 shooting with 3 threes, while Justin Simon added 10 points, 7 rebounds and a pair of steals to round out the scoring in double digits for St. John’s in the loss. Kassoum Yakwe added 7 points with 3 blocks in the losing effort as well for the Red Storm. Ponds leads the team with an average of 19.2 points and 4.9 assists while Simon is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.6 boards per game this season. As a team, St. John’s is scoring 73.6 points per game on 42.4% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 74% from the foul line this season.
Georgetown is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference matchups. St. John’s is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a loss and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 Tuesday games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games overall. Georgetown is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at St. John’s.
Wait, St. John’s is almost a double-digit favorite here? I know Georgetown hasn’t been the most consistent since starting conference play and have had a weak schedule out of conference, but St. John’s has played two home games in conference, has been a decent favorite in both of those games and have lost by 22 and 17 points to Providence and DePaul respectively. No thanks. Georgetown has the size to matchup with St. John’s and can cause the Red Storm some serious problems, so I’ll take the points in a game that Georgetown has a good shot at winning outright.
