The Chattanooga Mocs lost their 4th consecutive game and dropped to 6-10 (0-3 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 85-66, this past Saturday. Chattanooga had no answers on either end of the court against East Tennessee State in the 1st half and couldn’t fight back after trailing by a 48-27 margin at halftime. Chattanooga shot just 39.0% from the field and 29.4% (5-17) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Mocs was Nat Dixon who had 20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks. On the season, Chattanooga is averaging 68.0 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Mocs are averaging 8.7 three-pointers per game on 35.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Chattanooga has been led by Makinde London (13.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 spg), Nat Dixon (13.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 2.3 apg), Rodney Chatman (11.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.0 spg), and James Lewis Jr. (9.1 ppg, 6.0 rpg). Defensively, Chattanooga is allowing their opponents to an average of 69.2 ppg on 46.9% shooting from the field. The Mocs have a rebound margin of -1.9 and a turnover margin of -0.2. James Lewis Jr. is currently questionable for this matchup due to a shoulder injury.
The Paladins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games and 12-4-1 ATS in their last 17 games vs. Southern opponents. The Mocs are 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall and just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games.
Furman continued their strong start to their season in a nice come from behind victory against Mercer and should have a major advantage on both ends of the court in this one as the Paladins rank 47th in scoring offense and 95th in scoring defense. Chattanooga has really struggled this season and although their defense ranks just 101st in scoring defense, rank just 309th in defensive FG% and have had trouble scoring the ball, ranking 308th in scoring offense. Chattanooga has been awful ATS at home as of late and I just don’t see the Mocs doing enough in this one to break that trend. I’m taking Furman to cover this road spread.
