The Cleveland State Vikings will travel to Calihan Hall to take on the Detroit Mercy Titans this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Cleveland State Vikings dropped to 4-12 (1-2 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Milwaukee Panthers, 67-63, this past Saturday. Cleveland State once again struggled on the offensive end and couldn’t fight back after the Panthers used an 8-0 run to take a 60-50 lead with 4:16 left in regulation. Cleveland State shot just 29.6% (8-27) from beyond the arc and was outrebounded by Milwaukee by a 34-25 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Vikings was Kenny Carpenter who had 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. On the season, Cleveland State is averaging 68.3 ppg on 43.4% shooting from the field. The Vikings are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 31.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Cleveland State has been led by Kenny Carpenter (13.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.1 spg), Bobby Word (11.4 ppg, 2.9 rpg), Tyree Appleby (10.9 ppg 2.0 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.4 spg), and Anthony Wright (7.9 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.6 apg). Defensively, Cleveland State is allowing their opponents to average 74.4 ppg on 46.1% shooting from the field. The Vikings have a rebound margin of -9.3 and a turnover margin of 2.5.

The Detroit Mercy Titans lost their 11th consecutive game and dropped to 4-13 (0-4 Horizon) on the season after being defeated by the Northern Kentucky Norse, 56-54, this past Sunday. Detroit Mercy played Northern Kentucky tough, however, couldn’t pull off the upset victory after being held to just two points over the final 4:08 of regulation. Detroit Mercy shot just 33.9% from the field and 17.4% (4-23) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Titans was Corey Allen who had 10 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. On the season, Detroit Mercy is averaging 81.5 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Titans are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Detroit Mercy has been led by Kameron Chatman (18.0 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg), Corey Allen (15.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.6 apg), Jermaine Jackson Jr. (11.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.4 spg), and Josh McFolley (9.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.4 spg). Defensively, Detroit Mercy is allowing their opponents to average 87.4 ppg on 46.5% shooting from the field. The Titans have a rebound margin of -2.1 and a turnover margin of -1.3. Kameron Chatman is currently questionable for this upcoming matchup due to an undisclosed reason.
The Vikings are 5-2-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games vs. Horizon League opponents. The Titans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following win.
Cleveland State has lost 6 of their last 7 games and come in with one of the worst offenses in the country as the Vikings rank 303rd in scoring offense, 242nd in FG%, 305th in 3P-FG%, and 300th in FT%. Detroit Mercy has an offense that can put up points in a hurry as they rank 48th in scoring offense, however, the Titans will need to find some answers on the defense end if they want to snap their losing streak as Detroit Mercy ranks 349th in scoring defense and 302nd in defensive FG%. Detroit Mercy has been more competitive as of late, especially in their recent game against a very good Northern Kentucky team, and as I still think the Vikings will have trouble finding ways to score the basketball, I’m taking the Titans to snap their losing streak and cover this small home spread.
