We have some Missouri Valley conference college basketball action on Wednesday, as the Missouri State Bears take on the Evansville Purple Aces.
The Missouri State Bears will look to rebound after having their 4 game winning streak snapped with their first conference loss of the season in a 72-68 loss to Illinois State last time out. Alize Johnson, J.T. Miller and Ronnie Rousseau III each logged 16 points as the trio of double digit scorers for the Bears in the loss. Johnson shot 6 of 12 from the floor with 3 threes and a team-high 12 rebounds for the double-double, while J.T. Miller added 11 rebounds for his own double-double. Rousseau III went 6 of 10 from the floor with 3 threes for Missouri State. Obediah Church dished out a team-high 3 assists with a pair of blocks as well in the losing effort for the Bears. Alize Johnson leads the team by averaging a double-double per game this year with 15.1 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, while Jarred Dixon leads the team with 2.4 assists per game this year. As a team, Missouri state is scoring 71.8 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the field, 33.9% from behind the arc and 69.7% from the foul line this year.

The Evansville Purple Aces come into this one looking to build some steam after picking up their first conference win of the year, snapping a 4 game losing streak with a 68-44 win over Bradley last time out. Ryan Taylor led the team with 21 points on 8 of 17 shooting with 4 threes, while Dru Smith added 14 points with 6 assists and a pair of steals. Blake Simmons added 12 points with 5 assists, 3 steals and a pair of blocks to round out the trio of double digit scorers for the Purple Aces in the win. K.J. Riley added 6 points with a team-high 7 assists and 3 steals, while Dainius Chatkevicius added 6 points and a team-high 7 rebounds. Simmons leads the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game, while Chatkevicius leads the team with 5.1 rebounds per game and Riley leads the way with 2.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Evansville is scoring 68.4 points per game on 47.2% shooting from the field while owning the 3rd-best 3-point percentage in the country at 45% from downtown and a 77.4% mark from the foul line this season.
Missouri State is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 conference matchups and 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 road games. Evansville is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. The underdog is 13-3-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.
Neither of these two teams are lighting it up offensively, and while I think Missouri State has the deeper team, Evansville has had a ton of success at home. Plus, the underdog has covered in 13 of the last 17 meetings with one of the other games ending in a push, and since we are getting a team that’s 10-1 SU at home this season with points, I’ll take them and back Evansville here.
