Over at Lantz Arena on Thursday, the Tennessee State Tigers and the Eastern Illinois Panthers will be meeting up in college basketball action.
Tennessee State enters this game with a 6-9 record overall. The Tigers broke a five-game losing streak with a win over Jacksonville State but lost their last outing versus Tennessee Tech. In that one, the Tigers’ Delano Spencer and Christian Mekowulu put up 20 points.
USA TODAY Sports
Spencer is the top scorer for Tennessee State this year with 15.4 PPG and 3.5 RPG. Mekowulu is the only other Tigers player in double-digits this season on 12.0 PPG and 8.4 RPG, but Ken’Darrius Hamilton is close on 9.3 PPG.
Over on the Eastern Illinois side, they’re coming in at 6-9 this year as well. The Panthers have won their last two games, most recently against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday. In that game, Eastern Illinois’ Muusa Dama put up 18 points.
Monte Goodwin is the leading scorer for Eastern Illinois this season with 13.6 PPG, and Jajuan Starks is second on 11.3 PPG and 5.5 RPG. They’re the only two Panthers players averaging in double-digits this year, but Dama is close on 9.7 PPG.
The Tigers are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS loss and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 Thursday games. Tennessee State is also 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the Ohio Valley.
Meanwhile, the Panthers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall. Eastern Illinois is also 1-4 ATS in their last five following an ATS win and the under is 4-0 in their last four overall.
Tennessee State’s record is pretty ugly lately, but for the most part they’ve been staying in games and not getting blown out. As for Eastern Illinois, they haven’t been scoring all that well, putting up 54 points or fewer in three of their last four games (and just 61 in the other). I like Tennessee State to manage a cover here.
