The UNC Wilmington Seahawks lost their 2nd consecutive game and dropped to 4-12 (1-3 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the Delaware Blue Hens, 96-76, this past Sunday. UNC Wilmington had no answers on the defensive end for Delaware and couldn’t fight back after the Blue Hens took an 82-63 lead with 9:24 left in regulation. UNC Wilmington allowed Delaware to shoot 58.6% from the field and 52.4% (11-21) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Devontae Cacok who had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 80.3 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 32.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (17.9 ppg, 13.0 rpg, 1.1 apg), Jordon Talley (16.2 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 5.7 apg), Ty Taylor II (12.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 1.9 apg), and Jaylen Fornes (11.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.9 apg). The Elon Phoenix improved to 11-6 (3-1 CAA) on the season after defeating the Hofstra Pride, 89-76, this past Sunday. Elon led by a 36-33 margin at halftime and pulled away in the 2nd half after a 23-7 Phoenix run gave Elon an 80-57 lead with 7:19 left in regulation. Elon shot 50.8% from the field and 48.1% (13-27) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Phoenix was Tyler Seibring who had 22 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a block. On the season, Elon is averaging 74.5 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Phoenix are averaging 10.8 three-pointers per game on 36.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Elon has been led by Dainan Swoope (14.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.5 apg), Tyler Seibring (13.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.3 apg), Brian Dawkins (11.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.2 apg), and Dmitri Thompson (11.7 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.4 apg). Defensively, Elon is allowing their opponents to average 72.8 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Phoenix have a rebound margin of -0.5 and a turnover margin of -1.9.
The Seahawks are 7-19-1 ATS in their last 27 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss. The Phoenix are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games.
UNC Wilmington has really struggled this season as the Seahawks have lost 8 of their last 10 games and currently rank just 344th in scoring defense and 337th in defensive FG%. Elon has won 4 of their last 5 games and has been solid on the offensive end this season as the Phoenix rank 183rd in scoring offense, 74th in assists per game, and 17th in three-pointers made per game. UNC Wilmington has a decent offense and one of the best big men in the country in Devontae Cacok, however, the Phoenix are one of the better CAA teams this season and as I think they’ll have no problems hitting their shots from beyond the arc against the weak UNC Wilmington defense, I’m taking Elon to cover this home spread.
